MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE AND DEVELOPMENT

Arts NSW manages the following properties:

The Gunnery, a visual arts space at Woolloomooloo, the home of Artspace, the Biennale of Sydney, Arts Law, the National Association of Visual Artists, and the Museum and Galleries Foundation, with 12 studios available to artists.

The Arts Exchange building at The Rocks - a base for a number of arts organisations.

The Red Box, Lilyfield provides rehearsal, workshop, and office and exhibition space for contemporary theatre, dance and the visual arts.

Wharf 4/5, Walsh Bay - home of the Sydney Theatre Company, Bangarra Dance Theatre, the Australian Theatre for Young People and other group.

In addition, the NSW Government through Arts NSW developed CarriageWorks. Opened in January 2007, CarriageWorks is a new home for contemporary arts in Sydney. Built on a vision of a vibrant cultural life for our people and artists, it's a place for creativity and innovation with a unique spirit, where artists are given the opportunity to conceive, develop and present their work in an inspiring and creative atmosphere.

The mission of CarriageWorks is to provide a multi-venue centre focused on the creation and presentation of contemporary art. With large flexible theatre spaces, gallery and exhibition space, rehearsal rooms, a scenery workshop and office space, it is intended to create a working hub for practitioners and audiences of the small to medium arts sector.

CarriageWorks is housed in the old Eveligh Rail Yards at Wilson Street, located within the emerging Redfern Waterloo precinct.
