CALL FOR APPLICATIONS for the 2009 NSW Premier's Literary Awards - 30th Anniversary
Established by Premier Neville Wran in 1979, the Awards have a proud history, both in celebrating achievement of Australian writers and in helping to establish values and standards in Australian literature.
The NSW Premier's Literary Awards will celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2009. This milestone presents an excellent opportunity to review the Awards and the events that celebrate them.
As a result, a number of key changes have been identified to increase the profile of the Awards and public engagement with them. A major change will be publication of the shortlists for the 2009 Awards in the Sydney Writers' Festival Program. It is anticipated that a significant increase in publicity will be leveraged as a result. Other initiatives are under consideration including touring shortlisted and winning authors to outer metropolitan and regional centres.
Accordingly, to meet the Sydney Writers' Festival deadlines, the closing date for the Awards and the eligibility periods have changed. These and other administrative changes include:
- Closing date for nominations - 3 October 2008
- Eligibility period - works published or produced between 3 November 2007 and 3 October 2008 are eligible for nomination for the 2009 Awards.
- Entry fee - $40.00 for each nomination in each category (exemptions may apply).
- Increase in the number of judging panels - the number of panels in the categories that receive the most nominations (non fiction and children's books) will be doubled.
