IEMMA GOVT SUPPORTS REGIONAL ARTISTS

Parliamentary Secretary Steve Whan today announced a $15,000 grant to help artists and arts volunteers from country NSW attend the sixth biennial Regional Arts Australia national conference to be held in Alice Springs this year.

Steve Whan said the grant to Regional Arts NSW would help approximately 30 people, representing the State’s Regional Arts Boards, attend the art at the heart conference from October 3 – 5.

“This conference will provide an opportunity for country based artists, art workers and volunteers to collaborate and discuss best practice approaches to working in the arts in country Australia,” Steve Whan said.

“I am pleased the Iemma Government has been able to assist the work of regional artists and arts volunteers who contribute so much to their communities by enabling them to attend this conference.

“The knowledge and contacts they bring back to NSW will enhance the contribution they make at a local level.”

The CEO of Regional Arts NSW, Elizabeth Rogers commented: “We are most appreciative of the Iemma Government’s support for regional artists and volunteers.

“They are the people who contribute so much to the vibrancy and cultural life of country NSW, yet the costs of travel to their own national conference are beyond many of them.

“This grant will help to meet some of the travel costs for delegates nominated by Regional Arts Boards, and encourage a strong representation from NSW.”
