MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The 2008 review of Arts NSW’s Cultural Grants Program, commissioned by the then Minister for the Arts, the Hon. Frank Sartor MP, called for an analysis of New South Wales’ writers’ centres in order to develop an understanding of the needs of emerging, professional, and semi-professional writers, and the role of the centres in meeting those needs.

A Review of NSW Writers’ Centres was prepared by Mr David Fishel of Positive Solutions.  Mr Fishel consulted extensively with all the NSW writers’ centres, with interstate writers’ centres, their users and non-users, and representatives of libraries, literary organisations, the publishing industry and other levels of government. 

The Review, with its valuable information about literature in NSW, will be used to base future policy work around support for literature and access to literary culture.

I thank the staff and board members of the writers’ centres, and all who gave freely of their time and knowledge to ensure that this Review will make a significant contribution to the arts in NSW.
