A simpler and fairer approval system for live entertainment in venues commenced on 26 October 2009.
Place of Public Entertainment licenses have been abolished. Under the new arrangements licensed premises no longer need development approval if they want to host live bands and entertainment.
By making it easier and cheaper for venues to provide live entertainment there will be more opportunities for performers around New South Wales to establish themselves in the entertainment industry.
A community brochure, fact sheet for venues, fact sheet for musicians and Planning for Entertainment Guidelines are available on the Department of Planning’s live entertainment webpage at www.planning.nsw.gov.au/entertainment
The NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing has developed a new resource, Sound Advice - Reducing the Risk of Noise Disturbance, to help venues ensure they have strategies in place to manage noise impacts: http://www.olgr.nsw.gov.au/bb_music.asp.
