The development of the NSW Arts and Cultural Policy Framework
The NSW Arts and Cultural Policy Framework is a key NSW Government commitment under Goal 27 of NSW 2021: A Plan to Make NSW Number One.
The framework will set a vision and 10-year strategy for NSW Government engagement with the arts and cultural sector in NSW, to maintain and enhance the important social and economic contribution this sector makes to our State.
A ministerial reference group was appointed in 2013 to provide the broader arts sector’s perspective in developing this Policy. The group’s members were:
- Chris Freeland, National Managing Partner, Baker & Mackenzie; Chair, Sydney Film Festival
- Professor Deborah Stevenson, Institute for Culture and Society, University of Western Sydney
- Scott Howie, Executive Director, Eastern Riverina Arts
- Lisa Havilah, CEO, Carriageworks
- Ben Quilty, artist, 2011 Archibald Prize Winner, Art Gallery of New South Wales Trustee.
A discussion paper, Framing the Future, was released for public consultation in October 2013. Consultations included statewide stakeholder meetings, an online community forum and social media. It finished on December 2013, with a wide range of submissions from across the arts and cultural sector, the community and government.
The findings from the discussion paper have been consolidated into a Consultation Outcomes Report, which can be downloaded here. Arts NSW has published written submissions to the discussion paper. These submissions are available here
In cases where permission for publication was not specified, Arts NSW has contacted submitters to request consent for publication. As consent is provided, submissions will be released.
