The Art Gallery of New South Wales collects, conserves, interprets and displays works of art, with a special emphasis on the artistic traditions of Australia and its neighbouring regions.
In 2011/12 it attracted over 1.4 million visitors and its touring exhibitions attracted over 425,000 people. The permanent collection includes Australian, European, Asian and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. The Gallery presents more than 30 regularly changing temporary exhibitions each year including flagship annual exhibitions such as the Archibald Prize and ARTEXPRESS. The Gallery offers an extensive range of talks, workshops, after-hours events and public programs.
