2016 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship shortlist
Ten up and coming artists have been shortlisted for the 2016 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging), Acting Executive Director of Arts NSW Michael Brealey announced today.
Mr Brealey said the shortlisted artists would collaborate with curators in the lead up to an exhibition of their works at Artspace, Woolloomooloo in November, with the winner of the $30,000 fellowship to be announced on the opening night.
“The winning applicant will undertake a self-directed program of professional development which could include overseas travel, residency at an institution, study, research or undertaking an internship with an organisation,” Mr Brealey said.
“The NSW Government also provides funding to Artspace to manage and develop the fellowship and exhibit the shortlisted applicants’ works, so that these emerging talents will also benefit from professional support and gain recognition for their work.”
Mr Brealey said helping to improve the skills of emerging artists is a key focus of the NSW Government’s Create in NSW framework that guides strategy, investment and partnerships to grow a thriving arts and cultural sector.
“This fellowship is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to support the professional development of artists in NSW at the beginning of their careers,” Mr Brealey said.
The NSW Visual Arts (Emerging) Fellowship is provided by the NSW Government in partnership with Artspace in Woolloomooloo.
