Sites shortlisted for Parramatta’s Powerhouse
Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant has announced a significant step towards establishing a vibrant State Cultural Institution in Sydney’s west, with the shortlisting of two potential sites for Parramatta’s new Powerhouse Museum.
The two sites being considered are:
- Parramatta Golf Course
- Riverbank (Old David Jones car park)
Mr Grant said a business case will now be developed to determine the viability and cost of each site and canvas the views of the community before one is chosen.
“This is a very exciting day for arts and culture in Western Sydney, we’re moving closer to delivering the very first State Cultural Institution for the region, the beginning of a new era for industry,” Mr Grant said.
“Both sites present significant but different opportunities for a reinvented Powerhouse Museum which will become the anchor of a broader arts precinct for Western Sydney.
“Now we’re keen to involve the community members who will be using this facility to canvas their views on what they want out of their cultural institution.”
The NSW Government committed $30 million in the recent State Budget for arts and culture in Western Sydney including $10 million towards planning for the relocation of the Powerhouse Museum.
A preferred site is expected to be announced in mid-2016.
